WEEK 1 // Healthy Eating & Weight Loss Journey



Hi everyone, I hope you've all had an absolutely amazing week! 



Disclaimers

So before I get into all the details of what this post is really about, I just wanted to say that this is my personal journey and if you don't agree with losing weight by calorie counting or anything like that then this post probably isn't going to be your cup of tea, which is absolutely fine, I'm just pre warning you. 


Secondly, this is to do with building my own body confidence, i'm well aware, as everyone should be, that losing weight doesn't equate to happiness however for me personally, this is one of the only aspects of my life which I know I can make a positive change in. 


Hopefully there's some people out there who can relate to this, if you do please let me know in the comments and if you don't relate to this then I'm sorry, but please keep any negativity to yourself. Constructive criticism is very welcome but please don't do it in a nasty way. 






AN INTRODUCTION

So i've always had a little battle with my weight and the way my body looks. When I was in my early teens I did a lot of dancing and I was in good shape, however after quitting and getting into unhealthy eating habits like secret eating and overeating when I went out, my body changed and I didn't do anything to stop it.


During my time in 6th form I always considered myself as the 'bigger' friend, as my whole friendship group were generally in really good shape and I just didn't do anything about my weight even though deep down I knew I was unhappy with the way I looked and felt, especially on nights out when I couldn't share clothes or anything like that when the other girls could. 


I did a year at uni in London and that was when I really piled on the pounds. I was constantly eating 'feel good' food, and by that I mean constant snacking, lots of junk food and take aways and no exercise. I gained a huge amount of weight before I came back home for a year out.


Today, I live at home and go to uni in my home town where i'm going to be entering my third year in September. At the minute, being really into blogging I want to feel confident doing outfit posts, and I'm so sick of going to the stores I want to shop in and either not being able to wear what I want because it really doesn't suit me, or having to buy the biggest size available. I'm very top-heavy which is so much worse as this definitely emphasises my 'big' shape.


 I'm not saying that if you are a similar weight/shape/size to me that you should feel like this, like I said this is a personal journey for me to feel good about myself. 








WEEK 1


Start Weight: 11 stone 3

Current Weight: 11 stone 0.4 lbs

Weight Lost This Week: 2.5 lbs



HOW I DID IT

I've tried numerous diets and for me personally, counting calories is the best one for me. This way I can eat pretty much what I want (within reason) and I don't have that urge to binge. I know people like diets like Slimming World and Weight Watchers but honestly, I didn't get on with SW as I felt there were too many rules and restrictions. I also feel like through calorie counting I'm less likely to binge, as if i want some chocolate, I can have it. It's all about finding a balance and developing a good routine and relationship with the food you eat.


This week I restricted every day to 1500 calories. I hate going to the gym and exercising so this was a week of 0 workouts for me. I've been using My Fitness Pal which is amazing and free, you can log all your foods and it counts the calories and macros automatically for you. 


I'm not going to do food journals (unless you guys want me to?) But here's some general things i've been eating and yes, it's filled me up! I think my biggest problem is that I'm a huge overeater. I like to snack when I actually could be having a glass of water instead. 



Typical Breakfast: 30g of cereal with semi skimmed milk (approx 165 calories)

Typical Lunch: Toasted white pitta (sometimes 2 if i'm super hungry) with lots of tomatoes (approx 350 calories) 

Typical Dinner: Red onion and chive bagel, meat free popcorn chicken and ketchup (approx 428 calories) 

Typical Snacks: Tomatoes and the bubbles of joy chocolate mousses (approx 130 calories) 





HOW I FELT

Honestly, at the beginning of the week I just wanted to snack constantly. But I've learnt how to space out my meals and snacks properly and i've been drinking loads of water and now, at the end of the week, I feel sooo much better in myself. I'm definitely in a good frame of mind and I'm excited to keep this up.

I think that healthy eating has definitely improved my mood and energy levels, and now I look forward to one 'cheat' meal rather than having an abundance of them throughout the week.









I'm currently having a pizza as my cheat meal, and i'm not going to lie i'm SO excited for this.
